CHRIST THE LAMB IN REVELATION
In the last Bible book THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST, 28 times we find the word LAMB in relation to Christ.
Ministers should present the word of prophecy as the foundation of the faith of
Seventh-day Adventists. The prophecies of Daniel and Revelation should be carefully studied and in connection with them the words “Behold the Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world.” John 1:29 (GW 148)
Lamb is mentioned one more time in Rev.13:11, a lamb-like beast, but which
speaks as a dragon. Lamb-like and speaking differently is not good, but
very deceptive and dangerous.
This study will focus on Christ the Lamb in Revelation and in its three aspects.
1. Christ the Lamb as a sacrifice
2. Christ as a ministering Lamb
3. Christ as a victorious, conquering Lamb
The prophet Isaiah in chapter 53 outlined the coming Messiah as a suffering but also as a conquering Lamb, read vs.10 and 11
John the Baptist preaching to the people of Israel on the shores of the river Jordan pointing to a person in the midst of the crowd and said, Behold the Lamb of God,
John 1:29 and the next day he said the same, see vs.36.
Now let’s start our walk through the Revelation of Jesus Christ and discover the Lamb of God
First, Lamb of God as sacrifice.
Rev.5:6 John sees a Lamb as it had been slain.
This is the first picture of Christ. It puts His vicarious sacrifice up front
In Isa.53 we read in detail about the slaying of the Messiah, Christ, as a Lamb.
The Lamb of God is represented before us as in the midst of the throne of God
He is the great ordinance by which man and God are united and commune
together. Thus men are represented as sitting in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
This is the appointed place of meeting between God and humanity.
(SDABC 7a, p 967)
Rev.5:8 The Lamb is worshiped for what it has done, as mentioned in
Rev.5:9 have redeemed us by thy blood.
1Peter 1:18, 19 not redeemed with corruptible things, but with the precious
blood of Christ.
Rev.5:12, 13 for that reason it receives all praise, honour and glory.
Rev.13:8 this” being slain” was from the foundation of the world
“Before sin created the need, God had provided the remedy” (Ed.113)
Second, the Lamb in its redeeming and saving ministry
Rev.5:9 Christ the Lamb saved us in the past by the shedding of His blood, but is still
redeeming and saving in the present time.
Hebr.9:22 without shedding of blood no remission.
Titus 2:14 He gave Himself for us, in the past as the slain Lamb, that He might
redeem us, which is an ongoing process, John 3:16;Lev.17:11
Slain once for all; Hebr.9:27, but redeeming and saving continuously
Rev.7:10 Salvation belongs to God and unto the Lamb. Both God and the Lamb are
in the “business” of redeeming and saving people.
Rev.6:1 The Lamb opens the sealed book, a revealing ministry. What is hidden for
human eyes the Lamb opens and makes clear.
The Lamb holds the key which unlocks the mysteries of our life.
Rev.7:14 Sin-soiled clothes are made white in the blood of the Lamb.
Isaiah 1:16-18 come and be washed clean.
This is our washing and ironing time – the time when we are to cleanse our
robes of character in the blood of the Lamb. (SDABC 5-1131)
Rev.7:17 The Lamb feeds and leads, as the Shepherd of Psalm 23 and John 10:11 and 14
Rev.14:4 The Lamb is being followed as sheep follow the shepherd, it is the Guide.
Rev.17:14 The Lamb will be with his people, sheep, in the last battle. In danger the
Lamb does not act as a hireling, John 10:12, 13 but as a real shepherd
He is in the ministry of protection.
Rev.6:16, 17 The Lamb will also act as judge in the final phase of earth drama when
the wrath of the Lamb will be seen.
Rev.14:10 The executive judgment will take place in the presence of the Lamb
Third, the ultimate victory and glory of the Lamb
a. The saints, the redeemed, have a share in that Glory
Rev.7:9 The saints will give glory to the Lamb with palms, sign of victory, in their
hands
Every soul is in earnest, every heart full of thanksgiving for the
marvellous love of God and the overcoming grace that has enabled
His people to conquer in the warfare against sin. And with a loud
voice they swell the song: “Salvation to our God which sitteth upon
the throne, and unto the Lamb”. (5T384/5)
Rev.12:11 They overcame by the blood of the Lamb; 1Cor.15:57
Rev.14:1 The saints will be with the Lamb on Mt.Sion.
Rev.14:4 The saints are the first fruits unto God and the Lamb
Rev.15:3 The saints will sing the victory song of the Lamb.
Rev.19:7, 9 The saints will be guests at the marriage supper of the Lamb
Remember there will be two suppers, ib. vs.17
Rev.21:9 New Jerusalem will be the bride of the Lamb, ib.vs 2 (saints are inside)
Rev.21:27 Only such people will be in the city whose names are written in the
Lamb’s book of life the book of victory.13:8.
Rev.22:3, 4 The Lamb shall be served by its servants throughout eternity with the
the name of the Lamb in their foreheads.
Question: Who are saints?
Answer: Eph.1:1 To the saints who are in Ephesus and faithful in Christ Jesus”
1 Cor.1:2 To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are
sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints.”
b.The glory of the Lamb
Rev.17:14 In the final battle of the great controversy the Lamb shall conquer
and gain the victory.
As Christ was glorified on the day of Pentecost, so will He again be
glorified in the closing work of the gospel, when He shall prepare a
people to stand the final test, in the closing conflict of the great
controversy. (SDABC 7a, p. 983)
Rev. 14:1 The Lamb stands on Mt. Sion , having gained the victory
Rev.21:22 The Lamb will be the temple of worship.
Rev.21:23 The Lamb having been the Light in the world, shall be the light for
ever in the city of God.
Rev.22:1 The Lamb will be the source of the water of life; see John 7:39
Ezekiel 47, a river flowing from the new temple.
Rev.22:17 The Lamb’s bride gives the final call COME!
The gracious invitation, first given by Christ, is to be taken up by
human voices and sounded throughout the world: “Whosoever will
let him take the water of life freely.”Rev.22:17. The church is to say
“Come.” Every power in the church is to be actively engaged on the
side of Christ, The followers of Christ are to combine in a strong effort
to call the attention of the world to the fast-fulfilling prophecies of
the word of God. (9T43)
Rev.22:20 The Lamb, Lord Jesus, gives the final assurance, surely I come quickly
“Behold”, Christ declares, “I come quickly and My reward is with Me, to
give every man according as his work shall be.” God calls upon us to voice
the words, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God will do much more for His people
if they will have faith in Him.” (CH.53)
Who will answer the call of the Lamb to come and follow?
The last book of the Bible is truly and surely the Revelation of Jesus Christ
The Lamb of God.
